Vetoba temple is an ancient temple; some references also denote that temple and surroundings were part of Aryan traditional and religions. It is proven timen'again that whenever there were construction projects carried out in this region, many times during the digging process idols were found belonging to various deities. Hence it is not possible to correctly point out the origin of the temple. Before the current Vetoba deity idol, there was an old idol which was ceremoniously immersed reason for that is unknown. About the current deity idol there is a folk story currently told the same is detailed below:

Shri Dev Vetoba whose origin is unknown but said to be emerged from the Shiva-age. Shri Dev Vetoba and Shri Devi Bhavai temples currently are blessed with new idols. Immersed idols of Shri Vetoba is still resting on the south-east(Aagneya) side of the temple and Shri Devi Bhavai is immersed in the nearby holy well which also has the havan kund(sacred structure from where the fire communicates all our prayers to different deities. The structure itself generates energy to perform the ritual.)beneath it. These idols are carved from one black stone.
